Location
Situated approximately 25 miles southeast of Edinburgh on the A68, Lauder is the geographical centre of the Scottish Borders. Lauder is easily accessible - 1hr 45mins from Newcastle (via A68), 1hr 30mins from Carlisle (via A7, off the M6), and 30mins from the Edinburgh bypass (via A68).
Regular bus services run from Jedburgh and Edinburgh (Munros of Jedburgh) as well as from Galashiels
Thirlestane castle is directly adjacent to the Lauder town centre - 5 mins walk away. Access to the castle grounds is via the southern entrance which opens out onto the Lauder-Duns road at the south end of town.
